Treaty Making & Breaking In Canada
The history of the Canada-Indigenous relationship is characterized primarily by conflict. This despite dozens of treaties designed to mitigate conflict and ensure peace, friendship and respect. How can we explain this disparity? Dr. Hayden King’s presentation explores the three eras of treaty-making in Canada (with specific reference to Southern Ontario) and describes the nature of each type of treaty, how/why they all went so wrong, and what the future holds for our collective treaty relationship.
